What to expect
In the first week after your procedure, it’s normal for the skin in the area to feel tight and firm. With time, the skin will stretch to accommodate the breast implants. You will experience some swelling, which should subside within about six weeks and can be reduced by wearing a compression garment. Bruising should start to subside within two to three weeks.
It’s normal to experience pain and tenderness within the first few days after your procedure. You may be prescribed pain medication to help manage. Your incision sites will be covered with waterproof dressings, allowing you to shower the day after your procedure. You can expect your incision sites to appear pink and feel tender. While scarring is expected, the scars can slowly fade over time.
You’ll generally be advised to slowly increase your activity level over the first week, possibly returning to work after one week, depending on the details of your work. By weeks two to four, you may be able to resume your daily routine as normal. By around this time, 50% of the swelling should have subsided. You may be able to resume light exercise. Strenuous exercise and contact sports may be resumed after about six weeks. It’s essential to follow your personalised instructions when it comes to resuming activity.
By two to four weeks of recovery, you should be experiencing less pain and tenderness. Your breasts can also become more mobile, with the skin adjusting to the size of the breast implants. You may notice that the nipples have become numb or hypersensitive, which is normal. After the procedure, the nipples can become numb before becoming hypersensitive and gradually returning to their normal sensation.
When it comes to assessing the results of your procedure, you should keep in mind that your breasts can appear slightly larger than expected due to initial swelling. It can also take some time for the breasts to drop to the intended position. You should wait for the swelling to subside before expecting to see your final results. Your final results can usually be seen at about three to six months after your procedure.

Costs of a breast augmentation in Sydney
- The breast implants chosen
- Surgeon fees
- The procedure details
- Hospital fees
- The total procedure time
- Surgical aftercare and support
- Anaesthesia fees
Each of these factors can vary from patient to patient, so it will be essential to assess costs on a case-by-case basis.
Anaesthesia fees and surgeon fees will be based on the experience level of the anaesthetist and the surgeon. Hospital fees will cover the use of the theatre, equipment and the recovery room.
Aftercare and support can include items that are needed during recovery, such as a compression bra, and follow-up appointments to monitor your healing progress. At your consultation, you will discuss what will be involved during your recovery so that you will have time to prepare.
Combining procedures
In some cases, combining a breast augmentation with other breast procedures can be a suitable option.
As well as an augmentation with implants, Dr Hunt can also perform a breast lift (mastopexy), or a breast fat transfer. While a breast augmentation addresses breast shape and size, it does not lift the breasts. A breast lift may be a suitable choice for some patients to address the position of the breasts. Using fat from a donated site of the body, such as the thighs, fat can be transferred to the breasts to slightly increase volume. A fat transfer may be a suitable option for patients who would like to combine breast implants with this method.
Some patients may undergo a breast augmentation after pregnancy, which can commonly be combined with an abdominoplasty.
Combining procedures will affect the overall costs of the surgery. The option to combine procedures will be thoroughly discussed during the consultation process.
Financing options
Breast augmentation with implants is generally performed for cosmetic purposes, meaning that patients will not be eligible for a Medicare rebate.
As for payment plans, we are not able to offer direct payment options. However, you may have the option of contacting an independent medical financing company. Companies such as TLC or Medipay may provide you with an option to cover your procedure with weekly or monthly instalments.
You can visit Dr Jeremy Hunt’s Surgery Payment Plan & Medical Finance page for more information.
