Tip Rhinoplasty Sydney

Tip Rhinoplasty Sydney

Focusing on the tip of the nose, tip rhinoplasty is performed to adjust the shape, size, or angle of the tip. It may address a large, narrow, drooping nose tip, or a nose tip that is pointing upwards. Changing the angle of the nose tip can also make subtle aesthetic changes to the upper lip. A variety of techniques can be used to perform the procedure, according to the patient’s needs.

The surgery can be performed as an independent procedure, or can be combined with another procedure, such as a full rhinoplasty. Patients may choose to undergo a tip rhinoplasty due to its less extensive recovery period than a full rhinoplasty.

Specialist Plastic Surgeon Dr Jeremy Hunt aims to create subtle results. Understanding that altering the tip of the nose can influence the proportions of your face, Dr Hunt will consider your unique facial features to achieve a personalised outcome.

Your consultation at Aesthetic Edge in Sydney

Your nose tip surgery process begins with a thorough 30 to 45-minute consultation, to discuss your individual needs. Consultations will cost $400 and will be essential to determine your suitability for surgery, develop a personalised plan, disclose associated risks and discuss your recovery.

During your consultation, Dr Hunt will discuss the following:

Your suitability for nose tip surgery

Suitable candidates for the procedure will need to be at least 16 years old, with parental permission and counselling. Ideal candidates will want to focus on the tip of their nose, adjusting the shape, size and angle. Your suitability for a tip rhinoplasty needs to be assessed during a consultation, as personal factors, including health, lifestyle and expectations need to be discussed. Generally, candidates will need to be in good general health, understand the recovery process and not be pregnant or breastfeeding. You may also be instructed to quit smoking before undergoing the procedure to be a suitable candidate, as smoking can increase surgery risks.

The details of your procedure

Since the steps of your procedure will be tailored to your needs, they will need to be planned during a consultation. Dr Hunt will assess the condition of your nose and discuss your expectations for the results to develop a procedure plan. Nasal tip rhinoplasty will be performed under general anaesthesia and may use an open or closed approach. There are a wide variety of techniques that can be used during your procedure, which will be discussed in further detail.

Your steps to prepare

Before your surgery, you will need to follow some advice to prepare. Preparing may include stopping certain medications, quitting smoking or undergoing some tests to help determine your suitability for surgery. Following preparation advice will help to prevent complications.

Your recovery steps

You will receive personalised recovery instructions to follow after your nasal tip rhinoplasty. Considering personal factors and your procedure steps, you will be able to discuss what you can expect throughout your recovery, including how much time you will need to take off from work. Recovery instructions can include pausing medications, getting sufficient rest and keeping incision sites clean.

The costs of your surgery

Your personalised procedure steps will help to estimate your total costs. Once you have discussed the details of your surgery, you will be able to receive a personalised quote. Your total surgery costs will cover a variety of fees, including the use of the hospital theatre.

The Tip Rhinoplasty Procedure

A tip rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia at your nominated hospital. The steps of the procedure will be previously determined during your consultation with a collaborative approach, closely considering your individual needs and expectations.

Tip Rhinoplasty options

Depending on your personal preferences, the procedure can be performed to:
  • Alter a wide, round or box-shaped nose tip
  • Bring up a nose tip that is pointing downwards, typically by 90 degrees for men and 100 degrees for women
  • Bring down a nose tip that is pointing upwards, achieving an angle that is in harmony with your upper lip, generally by 90 degrees for men and 100 degrees for women
  • Address an over projected nasal tip
  • Change the shape of a pointy nasal tip, which may require a cartilage implant
  • Address a bulbous nose tip

An open or closed approach can be used to perform the procedure. An open tip rhinoplasty will involve a small incision, placed at the bottom of the columella. The open approach allows for access to deeper structures, allowing for the removal of more tissue and adjustment to the tip.

A closed tip rhinoplasty uses a smaller incision, that will be placed on the inside of the nose. While it provides less access than an open approach, it may be sufficient if minimal tissue manipulation is required.

After placing incisions according to the suitable approach, Dr Hunt will then use specific techniques that meet your individual needs. He may remove cartilage, implant cartilage, remove excess tissue, shorten the nostrils, or adjust the columella. If a cartillage implant is required, this will typically be taken from the ear. (or from a donor)

To complete the surgery, incision sites will be closed, and your nose will be packed with gauze. Patients can typically then be sent home to complete their recovery.

If your procedure will need to be combined with other procedures, the further steps will be explained during your consultation. For example, you may need surgery performed to address the nasal septum, which may require septum surgery or a full rhinoplasty.

Recovery after a tip rhinoplasty

During your consultation with Dr Hunt at Aesthetic Edge, you will discuss your individual recovery instructions that will be tailored to the details of your procedure. Following your recovery instructions will help minimise post-surgery risks. You can also discuss what you can expect throughout your recovery, including when you can expect to see your full results.

What to expect

Recovering from a nose tip surgery is generally less extensive than a full rhinoplasty. While this can mean a shorter recovery, you will still need to ensure that you follow your recovery instructions to optimise healing.

Generally, swelling, bruising and discomfort will subside within the first week of recovery. Nasal congestion can also significantly improve during the first week.

Patients will often only require one week of recovery at home, taking one week off work. However, this can depend on your specific job, as strenuous exercise will need to be avoided until recommended by Dr Hunt.

Once swelling has sufficiently subsided, you will be able to see your full results. This can typically take about three to four weeks.

Recovery instructions

Recovery instructions can vary from patient to patient, as they will be tailored to the details of your personalised procedure. Some tip rhinoplasty procedures can be more extensive than others, and some procedures may be combined with other surgeries.

Generally, recovery instructions will include to:

  • Avoid touching your nose
  • Open your mouth when sneezing
  • se saline solution to keep nostrils clean
  • Keep incision sites clean
  • Try to sleep on your back
  • Take prescribed pain medication
  • Avoid excessive heat exposure
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, contact and risk sports (walking and gentle jogging may be encouraged).
  • Attend post-operative check-ups to monitor healing.
You may also be instructed to stop taking certain medications, such as blood thinning medications. This will be discussed during your consultation.

Tip Rhinoplasty FAQs

Generally, the recovery period after a tip rhinoplasty is shorter than a full rhinoplasty. It can also be associated with fewer risks and complications. Tip rhinoplasty is considered to be less invasive than rhinoplasty, but it is still a surgical procedure which will require following important recovery instructions.
The procedure is usually performed under general anaesthetic. As for recovery, side effects, such as pain, are generally considered to be less extensive than with a full rhinoplasty. However, if you do experience discomfort after the procedure, you may be able to take prescribed pain medication.
A nasal tip rhinoplasty can address a wide, box-shaped or bulbous nose tip, a nose tip that is pointing upwards or downwards, a pointy nose tip and a tip that is over projected. The procedure is highly personalised and will use techniques that address your specific needs.
The speed of recovery after a tip rhinoplasty will depend on individual factors, but it typically involves taking one week off from work. A full recovery, including for swelling to fully subside, can take about three to four weeks.
